Consacr\u00e9 dans la liturgie juive, il a \u00e9t\u00e9 progressivement int\u00e9gr\u00e9 dans la liturgie catholique pascale vers le IV<sup>e<\/sup>\u00a0si\u00e8cle, comme en t\u00e9moignent les P\u00e8res de l\u2019\u00c9glise Augustin et Ambroise.
